A Babu Kishan, Tom Petty Story !

A Tom Petty Story,

Tom was an old friend a person who I jammed with many times in Woodstock NY

We are #Human and we do mistake sometimes, it’s can be #forgiven but we never #forgotten.

A incident happened in my life which I will never forget. George Harrison arranged a book signing event for my last book in 1986 in which Tom Petty was there, he completely changed his hair and style and I could not even recognize him, today looking back I feel foolish because I could not recognize him he is was famous at the time a true Rock and ROLL Legend and I could not recognize him.

When my #Book was released in #LosAngeles 1986 by hand of #TheBeatles #GeorgeHarrison & #IndianClassicanMaestro #PanditRaviShankar a person backstage was disturbed and trying to get my attention he was trying to tell me something but I thought he just came from audience and I was so busy I just thought he was some person and I didn’t recognize him and I totally ignored him.

Tom Petty (who I did not recongnize) started talking with #GeorgeHarrison, we all thought maybe they know each other. A student from UCLA took a video of the of the Book releasing event, just a quick shot and was asking #Ravishankar’s Manager (HariHara Rao) and my friend worked at #Ethnomusicology dept of #UCLA, Indian born, also a #Tabla & #Sitar player told me, "Babu you were avoiding the guy on stage and backstage, he was the person you knew from long time and just came to say hello and was there to wish you well’, ... I was so puzzled and almost asked who was it then??

Harihar loved Storytelling all the time” Babu he was your friend from the circle the 1970’s and 70’s and 1980’s with #AllenGinsberg, #BobDylan, #TheBand and #TheBeatles you used to jam with him all the time in Woodstock NY TOM PETTY.

After that incident I never met again Tom Petty again live but we talked on phone
☎️ Obviously I apologized a lot.  I told him I was sorry but I couldn’t recognized him, the way he looked had totally changed from how I knew him earlier.

Allen Ginsberg and Babu Kishan

11/3/2018

Picture
This post is mostly for the people in India who continuously keep making up stories about Allen Ginsberg and other Bauls who never ever met Allen Ginsberg, or link Ginsberg to Baul through his poetry Lalon, when the only Baul link is Babu Kishan for decades and His Grandfather Nabani Das Khyapa Baul.
***************
The American Poet Allen Ginsberg &
Babu Kishan The Indian Poet

Babu Kishan is in the process of writing his personal story of  his long friend and friendship with Allen Ginsberg. He is the only Baul who developed a long friendship with Allen Ginsberg.

Of course this friendship has it roots in Babu Kishan's Grandfather 'Nabani Das Khyepa Baul' who was an MahaSiddha/Avadhuta who Ginsberg met on his trip to India in '1962' and whom he kept a personal and private connection all his life. You can see Babu Kishan's link on Allen Ginsbergs Page under links, miscellany. Babu and Allen are both poets and they were mystical friends starting in the 1980's until Ginsberg passed in April, 1997. Allen wrote a poem called Lalon, it has nothing to do with Lalon of Baul. Babooo as Allen called Babu Kishan had years and years of discussions of the poetry of India.

"We also are indebted to the influence of Allen Ginsberg, who met Nabani Das in the early 1960s and wrote “Indian Journals” and never wavered from his spiritual path; to Albert B. Grossman who brought Nabani’s sons Purna and Luxman Das Baul with their group to the US in 1967 to record for Elektra Records and tour; "

"Albert Bernard Grossman (May 21, 1926 – January 25, 1986) was an American entrepreneur and manager in the American folk music scene and rock and roll. He was famous as the manager of many of the most popular and successful performers of folk and folk-rock music, including Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Peter, Paul and Mary, the Band, Odetta, Gordon Lightfoot and Ian & Sylvia."

It should be noted that it was Allen Ginsberg who wanted to bring Nabani Das Khyepa Baul to America in 1966, Nabani refused to come to America, thus he sent his two son's, Laxshman Das Baul and Purna Das Baul and their band in 1967, the whole Group was called "The Bauls of Bengal" the name everybody uses today.

Poetry is written by Allen Ginsberg for Babu Kishan

'This is the only Baul Poetry Allen Ginsberg ever wrote.'

*******
“Baul of Bengal, I sing for all,  Blue Danube is my Jamuna,  Hudson my Vrindavan, see me in Calcutta, Toronto and London,  Hear my call Baul of Bengal,  Same man many names,  same player,  many games,  Love is magic to win at life,  Hear my call O Baul of Bengal.”

Written by Allen Ginsberg in 1983,
as a gift to Babu Kishan '

***************

Babu Kishan composed music for this poetry, the original in collaboration with Garth Hudson, Robbie Robertson, Levon Helm, (of The Band) aka Bob Dylan's Band.

Babu Kishan sang this on the 1985 tour of America, which Babu did percussion and sang.

This tour was the American tour of Bob Dylan & The Band, and Babu Kishan sang this one and only piece of Baul poetry ever composed by Allen Ginsberg's.

Bob Dylan and Babu Kishan

11/3/2018

Picture
All the above 'Bob Dylan' records released, marketed and promoted by 'Babu Kishan' in India and the rest of Asia in the 1980's/1990's.

Babu Kishan gave Bob Dylan the name 'Western Baul'
Babu  Kishan released all Bob Dylans records in India.

No one in India would know who or what Bob Dylan music was without Babu Kishan. RV Pandit 'Chairman of CBS India' which was later sold to Sony, asked Babu Kishan, 'why are you always promoting this guy Bob Dylan?" Babu has always been enthralled with Bob Dylan poetic songs since he came to know his father was on the cover of Bob Dylans album, "John Wesley Harding" 1967.

Babu Kishan was always inspired by Bob Dylan and he knew him personally and became friends with him.

When Babu Kishan worked at CBS India he had tried to bring Bob Dylan to India, he could not get sponsorship or enough interest. Babu Kishan was influenced by his poetry and music.

Bob Dylan had a regular connection through 'Al Aronowitz' who was the 'Father Rock Journalism in America' Aronowiz introduced 'Bob Dylan to Allen Ginsberg' & 'The Beatles when Bob Dylan'.

Al Aronowitz of the Blacklisted Journalist, was a very dear friend of Babu Kishan's and they would talk daily for years and years. Al in New York & Babu Kishan in Bombay & Babu would visit once a year in New York along with Allen Ginsberg.

Rama Bali (scarf) that Laxshman Das Baul gave Bob Dylan in 1967.

Most people in Bengal are talking and acting like they have had association with Bob Dylan, they have not. Bob Dylan is a personal friend of Babu Kishan's aka Krishnendu Das the eldest son of Purna Das Baul. His dad Purna Das Baul and uncle Laxshma Das Baul first met Bob Dylan in 1967 but they did not continue a relationship with Bob Dylan. As you can see by the they were on the Dylans album "John Wesley Harding'. It was Babu who found the album and showed his Dad, most people think Purna Das Baul had an ongoing personal relationship with Bob Dylan he did not. It was Babu Kishan who had an ongoing relationship.

Babu Kishan connected with Bob Dylan 18 years after 1967 and every time Babu would see Bob Dylan he would ask how is Laxshman Das Baul because it was Laxhsman who Dylan related to?

Bob Dylan is only connected to Bengal through Babu's Dad and the late Laxshman Das Baul first in 1967 then after 18 years through Babu Kishan.

Babu Kishan aka Krishnendu Das is the first and only person who wrote articles about Bob Dylan through Bengali newspapers.

Bob Dylan has never been to India as told by Babu's youngest brother who lied and has ruined Purna Das Bauls name by dragging him on NDTV in his 80's and making up lies that Dylan came secretly for an hour to his wedding in 1990? This is 100% not possible because Dylan was in Brazil South America at that time.

Dylan was 100% NOT in India in 1990

*******************
Babu is the one who introduced Bob Dylan to Bengal and India through his writing of stories, now we are seeing other musicians, Bauls and poets making up stories without any connection to Bob Dylan.

You will see may writers randomly connecting Bob Dylan and Allen Ginsberg to Bengal without any knowledge of the real stories. They just randomly, without doing research will connect Dylan and Ginsberg to random Bauls and God knows what else? Journalism is about Research and it seems Fake NEWS wins today.

On Bob Dylans web site - Under 'Bauls of Bengal' and a story of how The Bauls ended up on the cover of the album "John Westley Harding" you will see only Babu Kishan's name  listed on Bob Dylan's web site.

Babu Kishan arranged with Bob Dylan to be on Dylan's East West Tour of America, in 1985. Babu Kishan performed at approximately 40 concerts with Bob Dylan. His father and mother performed in about ten of those concerts. It was only Babu Kishan who arranged the tour and kept up a friendship with Bob Dylan & The Band. Babu is the one who reconnected his dad with Bob Dylan after 18 years and arranged the recording an album with (Garth Hudson) in Woodstock.

Recently Babu talked to Jacob Dylan (Bob's) son who confirmed with Babu that his DAD Bob Dylan has never been to India.

It was difficult back then, which today is so easy to do.
