A Tom Petty Story,
Tom was an old friend a person who I jammed with many times in Woodstock NY
We are #Human and we do mistake sometimes, it’s can be #forgiven but we never #forgotten.
A incident happened in my life which I will never forget. George Harrison arranged a book signing event for my last book in 1986 in which Tom Petty was there, he completely changed his hair and style and I could not even recognize him, today looking back I feel foolish because I could not recognize him he is was famous at the time a true Rock and ROLL Legend and I could not recognize him.
When my #Book was released in #LosAngeles 1986 by hand of #TheBeatles #GeorgeHarrison & #IndianClassicanMaestro #PanditRaviShankar a person backstage was disturbed and trying to get my attention he was trying to tell me something but I thought he just came from audience and I was so busy I just thought he was some person and I didn’t recognize him and I totally ignored him.
Tom Petty (who I did not recongnize) started talking with #GeorgeHarrison, we all thought maybe they know each other. A student from UCLA took a video of the of the Book releasing event, just a quick shot and was asking #Ravishankar’s Manager (HariHara Rao) and my friend worked at #Ethnomusicology dept of #UCLA, Indian born, also a #Tabla & #Sitar player told me, "Babu you were avoiding the guy on stage and backstage, he was the person you knew from long time and just came to say hello and was there to wish you well’, ... I was so puzzled and almost asked who was it then??
Harihar loved Storytelling all the time” Babu he was your friend from the circle the 1970’s and 70’s and 1980’s with #AllenGinsberg, #BobDylan, #TheBand and #TheBeatles you used to jam with him all the time in Woodstock NY TOM PETTY.
After that incident I never met again Tom Petty again live but we talked on phone ☎️ Obviously I apologized a lot. I told him I was sorry but I couldn’t recognized him, the way he looked had totally changed from how I knew him earlier.
